Which Nova is yours?
Already have a board?
A large cube and opaque, two-colour dice are the two cheapest upgrades for a cleaner transcript.
Questions
Do I need a Nova board?
No. Trackgammon aims to support any board and is improving all the time. Nova boards are the ones its AI was trained on, so they give the most reliable transcripts. If you play on another board, follow the recording guide: matte checkers, opaque dice, sharp points and good contrast make the biggest difference.
What does it cost?
Trackgammon runs on credits, and you get free credits to get started. After that it is inexpensive: Marc and Hideaki’s 5-point match cost less than $1.50 to transcribe. Add credits in the Galaxy app.
Which phones work?
Any iPhone or Android phone that runs the Backgammon Galaxy app. Make sure it has plenty of free storage before a long match, and upload on Wi-Fi.
Can I upload a video I filmed myself?
Yes. MP4, MOV, AVI and MKV files up to 2 GB. The in-app recorder is the easier option: it keeps a match to around 500 MB instead of the 5 GB an action cam produces.
How accurate is it?
In Marc vs Hideaki’s bullet match the transcript needed no corrections at all. Trackgammon can’t guarantee that every time, so it validates the match and flags any move it’s unsure of. You fix it against the video, by dragging checkers on the board or typing the move.
What do I get at the end?
A full transcript of the match, move by move with cube actions, that you can analyse in Trackgammon or download as a .MAT file for eXtreme Gammon or GNU Backgammon.
