1. Pick the size for where you play.
For club and tournament play, choose a tournament-size board. Large checkers (about 44.5 mm) and a full-size playing area make the game more comfortable. Nova opens to 74 × 51.5 cm (29.1 × 20.3 in). If the board travels with you, Adventure (48 × 42 cm open) and Adventure+ (67 × 42 cm open) are rigid cases built for the road.
2. Decide how much the materials matter.
Nova, from $400, puts the money into the playing experience: tournament size, large checkers and a fixed playing surface. Earth and Monte Carlo, from $1,150, add premium cases and removable playing surfaces you can swap or replace.
3. Check the surface and checkers.
Felt-type surfaces let checkers glide and keep dice noise down; a wooden surface is much louder. Checkers of 44.5 mm (1.75 in) feel best in the hand, while anything under 38 mm (1.5 in) feels small.
4. Check what's in the box.
Our boards come as complete sets with checkers and a doubling cube, so you can play straight away. Each listing shows exactly what's included.
If you play regularly or at tournaments, buy a tournament-size board. Boards are usually described by height: medium boards are 16–19 inches and tournament boards are over 19 inches, with large checkers of about 44.5 mm (1.75 in). Our Nova opens to 74 × 51.5 cm (29.1 × 20.3 in) and has 44.3 mm checkers. If the board travels with you, a smaller rigid case such as Adventure+ (67 × 42 cm open) is easier to carry.
All three are tournament-size boards. Nova, from $400, has a fixed playing surface and large checkers, and is our best-selling board. Earth, from $1,150, adds a removable MagFit playing surface and a separate tray box you can leave at home to save weight (4.14 kg complete, 2.14 kg without the tray box). Monte Carlo, from $1,250, is a traditional premium case with removable playing surfaces and the classic Monte Carlo look.
Adventure is our smallest rigid board: 24 × 42 × 7.5 cm closed and about 3 kg, from $650. Adventure+ gives you more playing room and built-in checker trays at 33.5 × 42 × 7.5 cm closed and about 2.75 kg, from $850. PRIME, from $899, is a full tournament set in a compact, travel-ready design.
A tournament-size board with large checkers starts at $400 with Nova. Premium travel boards cost from $650 (Adventure) to $899 (PRIME). Premium tournament boards with removable playing surfaces, Earth and Monte Carlo, start at $1,150, and made-to-order FM Gammon boards start at $1,250. Spending more buys better materials, removable surfaces and presentation; the game plays the same on every board.
Our boards are complete sets, ready to play. A Nova comes with 30 large checkers, 4 dice, 2 dice cups and a matte doubling cube. Adventure+ comes with 30 checkers, a doubling cube, 2 dice cups, a carry bag and 2 pairs of precision dice. Each product page lists exactly what's in the box.
Nova, PRIME and our accessories ship from our warehouses in the US and the Netherlands. FM Gammon boards are made to order and ship from the workshop in Turkey. Shipping is free on orders over $150 to the USA and EU. Delivery takes 5–12 days, and 80% of orders arrive within 7 days. Outside the US and Europe, allow about 14 days. Prices and stock on this page are shown for your country.
MagFit is a removable playing surface that attaches magnetically, so you can swap it for another colour or replace it if it wears. It comes on Earth boards and on FM Gammon boards.
FM Gammon boards are made to order by our partner workshop, FM Gammon, in Turkey, and sold through the Backgammon Galaxy shop. They start at $1,250 and come with MagFit surfaces and a full accessory kit, including precision dice and a scoreboard.
